ISLAMABAD: In line with the Prime Minister’s vision to broaden the tax base, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) held an awareness seminar at the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to brief the business community on key reforms aimed at enhancing voluntary tax compliance, transparency, and accountability across the country’s revenue system.
The seminar was organised by the Taxpayers’ Services (TPS) Wing of the FBR under the supervision of Member TPS Tehmina Aamer. The FBR delegation included Muhammad Muti-ur-Rehman Mumtaz, Secretary Taxpayers’ Education and Facilitation, and Abdul Rehman Sheikh, Second Secretary Facilitation, according to an official news release.
A large number of traders, industrialists, and business leaders attended the session. Senior Vice President Saad Jamil, Vice President Faisal Sattar Mughal, along with chairpersons of various standing committees and executive members of GCCI, were also present.
During the seminar, FBR officials delivered a detailed presentation on reforms introduced under the FBR Transformation Plan. Key initiatives highlighted included Point of Sale (POS) Integration, the Track and Trace System, Digital Invoicing, the Faceless Customs System, Cargo Tracking, Direct Port Delivery, the Reward and Rating System, and the use of Video Analytics for monitoring production in various sectors.
Participants were informed that video analytics has already been implemented in the sugar and cement industries and is currently being rolled out in the textile sector. The officials noted that the integrated implementation of these reforms has led to improved tax compliance, an increase in the tax-to-GDP ratio, and stronger transparency and accountability within the revenue framework.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which members of the business community raised concerns related to tax facilitation and compliance. The FBR team responded to the queries and provided necessary guidance.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and giveaways by the FBR to GCCI office-bearers and executive members as a token of appreciation and collaboration. The event reaffirmed FBR’s commitment to continuous engagement with the business community and its resolve to build a transparent, efficient, and facilitative tax system to support the national economy.
