Pakistan’s Active Taxpayer List Crosses 8 Million Mark for the Second Time

ISLAMABAD — The number of active taxpayers in Pakistan has officially rebounded, crossing the 8 million threshold for the second time. As of today, exactly 8,014,941 filers are verified on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL), reflecting a strong resurgence in nationwide tax compliance.

The 8 million milestone is a critical recovery point for the national tax registry. The ATL previously reached this high-water mark in 2025, but experienced a sharp decline when the list was updated. More than 2 million individuals and businesses were struck from the active roster due to the non-filing of their income tax returns for the 2024-25 tax year, temporarily dropping the total active base to approximately 6 million.

The current surge back to over 8 million filers indicates that a significant portion of the removed taxpayers have since rectified their filing status, alongside new registrants entering the tax net.

The active base is broad-based and covers multiple jurisdictions. The current 8,014,941 figure comprises:

  • Individuals (Salaried and Business)
  • AOPs (Association of Persons)
  • Companies

This count includes compliant taxpayers operating within both Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) who have successfully filed their income tax returns for the 2024-25 period.

With the filing momentum currently accelerating, financial experts and tax analysts anticipate continued growth. Current projections suggest that the Active Taxpayer List is on track to hit an unprecedented 10 million active filers by September 30, 2026.

Because ATL statuses can fluctuate based on compliance and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) updates, businesses and individuals must ensure they remain on the active roster to avoid elevated withholding tax rates on transactions.

Citizens and financial professionals can verify their real-time, daily-updated status without delays or captchas directly through the ATL Status Portal.
