Federal Budget Likely to be Delayed Until June 12

The federal government is expected to delay the presentation of the Federal Budget 2026-27 once again, with June 12 now emerging as the likely date instead of the previously scheduled June 10, sources told ProPakistani.

According to officials, consultations regarding the budget schedule are still ongoing, while several key components of the budget have yet to be finalized.

Speaking to journalists, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said discussions on important budget matters are continuing and that limited time remains to complete the process. He added that the upcoming month of Muharram is also being taken into consideration while finalizing the budget timetable.

The minister said a final decision on the revised budget presentation date is expected within the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, sources said negotiations between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) have been successfully concluded. An understanding has also reportedly been reached between the federal government and its coalition partners regarding development spending priorities for the next fiscal year.

As part of the proposed development budget, the government is planning to increase allocations for smaller provinces. Under the current proposal, Balochistan is expected to receive the largest share of development funds, followed by Sindh. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to receive the third-largest allocation, while Punjab is expected to receive the smallest share.

The potential delay comes at a crucial stage as the government works to finalize fiscal measures, development spending plans, and revenue targets ahead of the announcement of its economic roadmap for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
