ISLAMABAD: In a significant step towards modernizing the country’s tax infrastructure, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced the reconstitution of its project management team dedicated to tax system digitalisation. This move underscores the FBR’s commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced efficiency, transparency, and taxpayer facilitation.
A notification issued by the FBR on Wednesday outlined the newly formed team, which will be responsible for overseeing the execution and implementation of the ambitious digitalisation project. This reconstitution comes as a follow-up to an agreement between the FBR and Karandaaz Pakistan, signaling a collaborative approach towards achieving a technologically advanced tax ecosystem.
The project management team comprises experienced professionals, including Muhammad Khalid Jamil (IRS/BS-20), who will serve as the Project Director and Chief of the IR-Transformation Delivery Unit. He will be supported by Farid Ahmed Khan Salarzay (PCS/BS-19), Chief (OPS) of the Customs Transformation Delivery Unit, and Taimoor Ali, the designated Focal Person from Karandaaz.
This newly formed team supersedes a previous project management team notified in May 2024, indicating a renewed focus and potentially an acceleration of the digitalisation efforts.
The core responsibilities of the project management team will include meticulous oversight and management of the entire project lifecycle, from its initial stages to successful completion. The team will also play a crucial role in fostering close collaboration and coordination among all relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, they will be tasked with ensuring strict adherence to project timelines, the delivery of expected outcomes, and the maintenance of high-quality standards throughout the digitalisation process.
This initiative is expected to bring about numerous benefits, including streamlined tax processes, reduced opportunities for tax evasion, improved data analytics capabilities for the FBR, and a more convenient and user-friendly experience for taxpayers. The digitalisation of the tax system is a key component of broader efforts to enhance revenue collection and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
With this reconstituted project management team now in place, the FBR is poised to make significant strides in its journey towards a fully digitalised tax system, promising a more efficient and transparent future for tax administration in Pakistan.
