The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is gearing up to take strict action against individuals flaunting luxury lifestyles on social media.
According to official sources, data of nearly 100,000 wealthy individuals has been collected, including those showcasing mansions, luxury cars, jewelry, and extravagant weddings. Non-filers spending lavishly on such events will also face close scrutiny.
The authority has highlighted cases where individuals reportedly wore designer suits worth $20,000 at weddings. Such persons will now be asked to declare their sources of income.
Furthermore, the FBR plans to cross-check last year’s tax returns with the latest filings. Any mismatch between declared income and visible lifestyle expenses will trigger enforcement action.
This move reflects FBR’s ongoing drive to bring high-net-worth individuals and digital influencers into the tax net.
