Islamabad: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has withdrawn its earlier decision declaring withholding tax as un-Islamic.
Speaking to media, CII Chairman Allama Raghib Naeemi clarified that the matter will be reconsidered in the next meeting. He explained that withholding tax was the last agenda item, and as several members had left during the session break, the note-taking staff mistakenly recorded it as being declared non-Shariah.
Earlier, a CII press release had termed withholding tax as “un-Islamic and excessive,” sparking debate. However, the Chairman has now confirmed that no final ruling has been issued, and the council will deliberate further before reaching a decision.
