No Extension in Deadline for Filing Income Tax Returns: FBR

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), via official press release, has strongly refuted unverified reports circulating on various media platforms suggesting that the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025 will be extended. Some reports even attempted to link a potential extension with the recent floods.

In a clear statement, FBR termed such reports as false, baseless, and misleading, reaffirming that the deadline of 30th September 2025 remains unchanged.

FBR highlighted that the majority of taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods and have had sufficient time to fulfill their legal obligation of filing returns. It further rejected claims that the IRIS system is experiencing slowdowns, confirming that the platform is fully operational and that taxpayers can file smoothly using the newly simplified income tax return form.

The tax authority also reminded taxpayers that failure to file returns by the due date will lead to late-filer status and penalties under the law. However, in cases of genuine hardship, taxpayers may apply for a short extension of up to 15 days, provided that due taxes are paid by 30th September and the request is approved by the relevant committee.

FBR urged all taxpayers to file accurately, honestly, and on time to avoid unnecessary legal consequences.
