ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) flagship mobile application, Tax Asaan, has come under criticism following its recent update, as key features for taxpayers remain disabled.
According to details, users cannot file income tax returns for Tax Year 2025 through the app. New taxpayer registrations are also unavailable, while the option to reply to notices issued by the FBR has not been activated. These limitations have raised concerns about the effectiveness of the application, which is reported to have cost millions in development.
Tax experts point out that the app was originally launched to provide convenience and digital accessibility to taxpayers. However, with core functions inactive, many users are forced back to the FBR’s IRIS web portal.
At present, the app only supports basic services such as verification of NTN, Active Taxpayers List (ATL) status, and Point of Sale (POS) invoice verification.
Stakeholders are now questioning whether the FBR will address these shortcomings to ensure that Tax Asaan truly lives up to its promise of simplifying tax compliance in Pakistan.
