Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reiterated that the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025 will not be extended beyond September 30, 2025. According to official social media updates, taxpayers have only three hours left before the expiry of the due date.
The FBR clarified that its online filing system, IRIS, is “fully functional and operating smoothly,” enabling taxpayers to file through the newly introduced simplified return forms. It further cautioned that individuals who fail to submit their returns within the deadline will be treated as late filers and subjected to penalties under the law.
The tax authority emphasized that all eligible taxpayers must file their returns by midnight to avoid legal consequences. However, under existing provisions, those who pay their due taxes by September 30 may apply for a maximum extension of 15 days with the approval of the relevant committee.
Despite the FBR’s stance, widespread complaints of technical glitches and late availability of return forms have been reported throughout the filing season. Addressing this issue, Hayat Akbar, CEO of TaxationPk, called on the FBR to reconsider its decision:
“We strongly urge the Federal Board of Revenue to grant at least a 31-day extension. The IRIS platform has faced massive disruptions, and many taxpayers could not access or file their returns on time due to technical shortcomings and the delayed opening of forms. Ensuring a fair opportunity for compliant taxpayers should be the top priority.”
TaxationPk emphasized that extending the deadline would not only ease the burden on taxpayers but also help the FBR improve overall compliance and revenue collection.
