Islamabad: In a surprising move, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2024-25 by 15 days, pushing the new deadline to October 15, 2025.
The decision comes just a day after FBR’s categorical press release declared that no extension would be granted and dismissed circulating reports on social media as “baseless and misleading.” However, persistent technical issues in the IRIS portal—where taxpayers faced frequent downtimes and slow processing—prompted widespread complaints from tax consultants and bar councils across the country.
Acknowledging the massive demand, FBR decided to extend the filing date to facilitate taxpayers and ensure higher compliance.
While we appreciate FBR’s decision to provide relief to taxpayers, it is crucial that such extensions are announced earlier to avoid confusion. The IRIS system’s technical glitches need urgent attention so that compliance is smooth, transparent, and stress-free for both taxpayers and consultants. Binte Zafar, Founder of TaxationPk
The extension is expected to bring significant relief to thousands of individuals and businesses who were struggling to file their returns due to repeated system crashes.
