Government Employees Demand 200% Salary Increase Ahead of Budget 2026-27

The All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) has demanded a substantial increase in salaries and allowances for government employees ahead of the Federal Budget 2026-27, citing the growing financial burden caused by inflation and rising living costs.

The association has formally submitted a six-point charter of demands to the government, seeking a 200 percent increase in basic salaries and a 500 percent increase in house rent, medical, and other allowances for public-sector employees.

To press for the acceptance of its demands before the federal budget announcement, APCA has also announced a nationwide protest in Islamabad on June 2, calling on government employees from across the country to participate.

According to APCA leaders, the purchasing power of government employees has been severely affected by persistent inflation, making current salary packages insufficient to meet household expenses. The association argues that existing pay scales and allowances no longer reflect prevailing economic realities and require immediate revision.

The organization has emphasized that a significant increase in salaries and benefits is necessary to provide relief to public servants who have been struggling with higher prices of essential commodities, utilities, healthcare, housing, and transportation.

In addition to financial demands, APCA has urged the government to halt the privatization of public-sector institutions, expressing concerns over the potential impact on employees’ job security and future benefits.

The association maintains that government workers have faced continuous economic pressure over recent years, while salary adjustments have failed to keep pace with inflation. APCA believes that a comprehensive revision of pay structures is essential to restore employees’ purchasing power and improve their standard of living.

As the federal budget approaches, authorities in Islamabad have reportedly begun security arrangements ahead of the planned demonstration, which is expected to draw a large number of government employees.

Budget 2026-27 Salary Expectations

The demands come at a time when the government is evaluating various proposals for salary and pension adjustments in the upcoming budget. Reports suggest that different options are under consideration for federal employees, including potential increases in basic pay, revisions to allowances, and reforms to the pension system.

However, APCA’s demand for a 200 percent salary increase and a 500 percent enhancement in allowances is significantly higher than the salary adjustments typically announced in previous budgets.

Financial Impact of APCA’s Demands

If approved, the proposed increases would place a substantial burden on the federal budget and government expenditure. A sharp rise in salaries and allowances would significantly increase the wage bill for federal and provincial governments, potentially affecting fiscal targets and budgetary allocations.

At the same time, employee representatives argue that meaningful salary adjustments are necessary to offset the effects of inflation and support the financial well-being of millions of public-sector workers and their families.
