The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has collected Rs. 4 billion in municipal taxes from Karachi residents during the current fiscal year, marking a significant improvement in revenue generation.
Municipal tax in Karachi is collected through electricity bills, and KMC had set a collection target of Rs. 6 billion for the year. According to KMC Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali, achieving nearly 60 percent of the revenue target is a major accomplishment and a performance level that has not been seen in previous years.
He stated that the corporation’s budget for fiscal year 2026-27 is expected to be close to Rs. 60 billion. The proposed budget is likely to be presented before the City Council on June 18 by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab for approval.
Gulzar Ali further revealed that approximately Rs. 37 billion will be allocated for development projects in the upcoming fiscal year. The development spending will be financed through a combination of funds provided by the Sindh government and revenue generated by KMC through its own sources.
The increase in municipal tax collection is expected to strengthen KMC’s financial position and support infrastructure development, civic improvements, and public service projects across Karachi in the coming year.
