Budget Meeting Today to Finalize Development Priorities

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to hold a crucial meeting of the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) on Monday, June 1, 2026, as part of preparations for the upcoming Federal Budget 2026-27.

The meeting will take place at the Pakistan Secretariat in Islamabad and will be chaired by key government officials responsible for economic planning and development. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal is expected to deliver the keynote address during the opening session.

The APCC meeting is a significant component of Pakistan’s annual budget-making process. The committee reviews national development priorities, evaluates sector-wise funding requirements, and discusses public investment strategies for the next fiscal year.

During the session, the committee will assess proposed development projects and funding allocations for both federal and provincial governments. It will also review key macroeconomic indicators and targets, including projected GDP growth, inflation forecasts, and overall development expenditure plans for FY 2026-27.

The APCC’s recommendations form the basis for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), which outlines the government’s development spending priorities and is later incorporated into the federal budget.

Government officials consider the APCC meeting a critical step in finalizing development allocations and shaping Pakistan’s economic roadmap for the upcoming fiscal year.

The meeting was initially expected to take place earlier but has now been officially scheduled for June 1, 2026, ahead of the federal budget announcement.
