FBR Extends Return Filing Deadline for Manual Taxpayers

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended relief to taxpayers who previously relied on manual filing, granting them additional time to submit their income tax returns as Pakistan transitions toward a fully digital tax regime.

The FBR said that manual income tax return filing has been formally abolished from Tax Year 2024 under the government’s digitalization agenda. However, to facilitate those facing difficulties shifting to the online system, the Board has extended the filing deadline for manual filers until November 30 under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Officials clarified that the extension is strictly applicable to taxpayers who filed returns manually in previous years and now require time to complete the online registration and submission process.

“This step ensures that taxpayers are supported through the digital transition and are not disadvantaged due to unfamiliarity with the new system,” the FBR said.

To support the transition, the FBR has also set up special facilitation cells in tax offices across the country. These dedicated help desks will provide free technical and legal assistance, including step-by-step guidance on registration and online filing procedures.

The FBR has instructed all field formations to ensure full support to taxpayers, reaffirming that the shift to e-filing aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of compliance across the tax system.
