FBR Foils Attempt to Import Banned Indian-Origin Textile Machinery

KARACHI – In a coordinated operation, the Collectorate of Customs Appraisement (West) Karachi and the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi have thwarted an attempt to import banned Indian-origin textile machinery through misdeclaration.

The Customs teams intercepted a container at the Karachi International Container Terminal, which had been declared as containing Chinese-origin “Textile Twisting Machine” imported from Jebel Ali, Dubai, by a Karachi-based textile manufacturer under Goods Declaration (GD) No. KAPW-HC-62256 dated October 7, 2025.

The alert was generated by the newly developed Risk Management System (RMS 2.0) being tested by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) at Karachi Port. Upon physical inspection, the machinery was confirmed to be of Indian origin, with serial plates and manufacturer markings deliberately removed to conceal its source.

The seized consignment includes a new Textile Twisting Machine with 576 spindles and accessories, valued at USD 85,107. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the importer for misdeclaration of origin.

The FBR stated that the successful detection highlights the vigilance of Customs authorities and the effectiveness of the upgraded RMS system in curbing illegal imports routed through third countries.
