FBR Revises Reward Rules, Sets 24-Salary Limit for Inland Revenue Staff

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has formally informed Inland Revenue officials that rewards granted for meritorious services will be capped at a maximum of 24 salaries per employee in a single financial year.

Last month, the FBR approved an increase in the reward ceiling for Inland Revenue officials, raising it from 18 salaries to 24 salaries for outstanding performance. To give effect to this decision, the Board has issued a new notification, S.R.O. 2485(I)/2025, proposing amendments to the Inland Revenue Reward Rules, 2021.

Under the revised rules, the total reward payable to any Inland Revenue employee for meritorious services during a financial year shall not exceed twenty-four salaries. The amendments also introduce a revised evaluation mechanism applicable to ex-cadre officers and staff.

The Board unanimously approved the enhancement of the maximum reward limit under Rule 6 of the Inland Revenue Reward Rules, increasing it from the existing threshold of 18 salaries to 24 salaries per financial year.

The FBR further noted that no changes are required to the Customs Reward Rules, 2012, as they already permit rewards of up to 36 months’ basic salary.
