FBR to Hold Technical briefing on Budget 2026-27 Following Parliament presentation

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will conduct a technical briefing on the Federal Budget 2026-27 on Friday following its presentation in Parliament, sources told ProPakistani.

The briefing will provide journalists, analysts, and stakeholders with a detailed overview of the tax proposals, revenue measures, and fiscal reforms introduced through the Finance Bill 2026.

The move marks the return of a long-standing post-budget tradition that was interrupted last year when the FBR opted not to hold its customary technical session before the finance minister’s post-budget press conference.

The decision to skip the briefing in 2025 sparked strong criticism from members of the media, who argued that key details of the proposed tax measures were not adequately disclosed. The controversy led to a walkout by journalists during the post-budget media interaction and prompted calls for greater transparency in the budget process.

Following the protest, the government assured journalists that a separate technical session would be arranged to explain the budgetary measures in detail.

At the time, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial stated that the government had chosen to replace the traditional technical briefing with a comprehensive presentation by the finance minister. However, the decision was widely criticized by journalists and economic observers who viewed the technical session as essential for understanding complex tax proposals.

The upcoming briefing is expected to offer a detailed breakdown of revenue-generation measures, tax amendments, compliance and enforcement initiatives, and other key provisions contained in the Budget 2026-27 documents.

Technical briefings have historically played a crucial role in helping journalists accurately report budget-related developments by providing clarity on complicated fiscal and taxation measures announced through the annual Finance Bill.

With Budget 2026-27 expected to introduce significant tax and revenue reforms, the briefing is likely to serve as an important platform for explaining the government’s fiscal strategy and addressing questions from the media and stakeholders.
