FTO Urges FBR to Take Action Against Senior Officers Over Maladministration

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has called on the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take strict action against senior tax officers involved in maladministration, pointing to deep-rooted administrative issues within the Board.

A formal communication from Dr. Asif Jah, FTO, raised concerns over what he termed “serious administrative lapses” among certain officials. According to the FTO, the behavior of some senior officers demonstrates neglect, inattention, and inefficiency in performing official duties — actions that clearly fall under maladministration.

The matter was highlighted in a public interest complaint, Waheed Shahzad Butt vs Secretary Revenue Division. In his directive, the FTO advised the FBR Chairman to:

  • Examine the matter personally
  • Take appropriate action against delinquent officers
  • Ensure that similar lapses do not occur in the future

The Ombudsman’s move underscores the need for accountability and efficiency among senior FBR officials to restore public confidence in the tax administration.
