PM Shehbaz Orders Phased Crackdown On Tax Evasion

Tobacco, tiles among key sectors targeted as government accelerates tax reforms

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday ordered a phased, sector-wise crackdown on tax evasion, with tobacco, tiles and several other industries set as immediate priorities.

During a review meeting with the Federal Board of Revenue, the prime minister called for stronger administrative and institutional actions, and received a briefing on the initial phase of tariff reforms.

According to an official statement, he urged swift implementation of planned reforms to address economic challenges and advance progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

Shehbaz Sharif also commended the FBR and Finance Ministry teams for their efforts to date, stressing that sustained execution of reforms is essential for long-term economic stability.
