PRA Plans Dedicated Commissionerate for Large Taxpayers

LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has initiated major institutional reforms, including a proposal to set up a dedicated commissionerate in Lahore for large taxpayers.

The authority is considering a restructuring model similar to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to boost operational efficiency, enhance staff performance, and improve facilitation for major taxpayers.

According to officials, these reforms were discussed during the 129th meeting of the authority, chaired by Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra.

During the meeting, it was decided that enforcement officers’ daily performance would be monitored through a central dashboard, backed by a comprehensive system of rewards and penalties. Officials were also informed that new positions are being added to the IT wing, alongside efforts to fully integrate the PRA database and upgrade the Sahulat App.

To strengthen transparency and performance, proposals for creating dedicated audit and vigilance wings were reviewed. The PRA commissioner (appeals) will now be able to conduct hearings via video link, while complaints lodged through the Sahulat App will be immediately routed to the concerned commissioner and enforcement officers. Action on consumer complaints will be mandatory within 24 hours, ensuring swift and merit-based resolution.
