LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified its ongoing enforcement campaign against tax evasion, conducting inspections across multiple cities and seizing sales records from several restaurants, cafés, and marquees in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Vehari.
According to PRA officials, the records were taken into custody after scrutiny indicated discrepancies between the tax collected from customers and the amounts deposited in the government treasury. In several cases, businesses reportedly charged sales tax but failed to remit it to the authorities.
A PRA spokesperson said enforcement teams have been instructed to suspend system connectivity for businesses operating outside the official electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS). He added that strict action is expected against entities found submitting false declarations or concealing their actual sales.
“Collecting sales tax from customers but not depositing it in the government treasury constitutes a punishable offence under PRA laws,” the spokesperson noted, adding that heavy fines have already been imposed on violators.
The authority clarified that it remains committed to ensuring compliance, transparency, and wider implementation of the e-IMS system across all registered businesses in the province.
LDA Remodelling Plan
Separately, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has initiated plans to remodel several major traffic junctions across the city. LDA Director General Tahir Farooq visited locations including the Railway Station Chowk, Misri Shah, Azadi Chowk, and Lorry Adda along with engineering teams to review proposed design improvements, according to an LDA spokesperson.
