Super Tax Case Hearing Deferred to January 26

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on Friday postponed the hearing of the super tax case until January 26 after counsel for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) concluded arguments.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, heard the case. During proceedings, FBR counsel Hafiz Ahsan Khokhar argued that Section 4-B of the Income Tax Ordinance had already been upheld by the court in 2022, while Section 4-C remains applicable thereafter.

FBR counsel Asma Hamid informed the bench that the Supreme Court had lifted the stay granted by the Lahore High Court on the super tax and directed taxpayers to deposit 50 percent of the tax amount with the FBR.

The chief justice also sought clarification regarding new petitions filed in the Islamabad High Court. Asma Hamid responded that most petitioners were existing ones, with only a few new taxpayers joining the case.

The court subsequently adjourned the hearing until January 26.
