PESHAWAR – Two officials from the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Peshawar have been killed in what the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has condemned as a “cowardly attack.” The officials, identified as Sepoy Muqaddar Ali and Sepoy Nazar Muhammad, were martyred while performing their duties at a tax enforcement checkpoint.
The incident occurred near the Kohat Toll Plaza, where the two officials were manning a post established under Section 40D of the Sales Tax Act 1990, as part of a national drive against tax evaders. The nature of the attack was not immediately detailed, but the FBR’s strong condemnation underscores the severity of the violence.
The senior leadership of the FBR in Peshawar, including the Chief Commissioner and other Commissioners, attended the funeral prayers for the fallen officials.
In a statement, the Board expressed its deep sorrow and paid tribute to the officials, stating they “rendered the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.” The FBR stressed that “these heinous acts of violence shall only further cement the resolve of the FBR to continue its national duty to safeguard the country’s revenue and enforcement of tax laws.”
Support Pledged to Families
The FBR pledged its “complete and unwavering support” to the bereaved families, assuring them that the entire FBR community stands with them in their time of grief.
The Board’s leadership confirmed that comprehensive support, in line with government policy for martyrs, would be provided. The FBR stated it would ensure all entitlements and support reach the families of Sepoy Muqaddar Ali and Sepoy Nazar Muhammad without delay, concluding that their “sacrifice… shall never be forgotten.”
