Customs Foils Illegal Import of Indian-Origin Goods Worth Millions

The Collectorate of Customs Appraisement (West) has successfully intercepted multiple consignments attempting to illegally import Indian-origin goods into Pakistan through misdeclaration of origin, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on Wednesday.

According to an FBR statement, the first case was detected when an importer falsely declared a consignment of textile machinery as Chinese-origin, which was later confirmed to be manufactured in India. Swift action by customs prevented clearance of the goods valued at Rs24.22 million.

Following this, heightened scrutiny at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) and off-dock terminals led to the interception of three additional consignments. These included shipments falsely declared as Chinese and Turkish origin, but examination revealed tampered labels and clear “Made in India” markings. The goods, collectively valued at over Rs40 million, were seized.

The collectorate reaffirmed its resolve to take strict action against misdeclaration and illegal imports of banned items, emphasizing that such practices undermine fair trade and harm national interests.
