Customs Seizes Gold, Luxury Items Worth Rs. 58 Million at Karachi Airport

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs on Friday seized gold jewellery and high-end commercial goods worth approximately Rs. 58 million from a passenger arriving from the United States at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

According to officials, the recovery was made at the International Arrivals lounge, where customs staff intercepted a passenger carrying 1,185 grams of gold jewellery along with a commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes, and branded handbags. The items were reportedly being brought into the country without proper declaration.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed the seizure, stating that all recovered goods have been taken into custody. An FIR has been registered against the passenger under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969, and further legal proceedings are underway.

In an official statement, the FBR spokesperson reaffirmed the department’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling and illegal trade, emphasizing that strict enforcement of customs laws is being ensured at all entry and exit points nationwide.

Authorities added that surveillance and vigilance at airports, seaports, and land borders have been further strengthened to curb the illegal movement of goods, safeguard national revenue, and ensure compliance with customs regulations.
