Experts Hail FBR’s Move to Form Tax Return Facilitation Committee

ISLAMABAD: Tax experts have lauded the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) decision to constitute a committee aimed at maximizing income tax return filings but have called for a further extension of 7–15 days in the filing deadline.

Experts told Business Recorder that the FBR formed the committee—tasked with resolving taxpayers’ technical issues—just two days before the October 31 deadline. They noted that while the initiative is commendable, taxpayers will have insufficient time to engage with the committee, as only two days remain before the deadline expires.

They suggested extending the filing deadline by at least one to two weeks, allowing maximum taxpayers to benefit from the committee’s facilitation and ensuring higher compliance levels.

Terming it a “wise but delayed” move, tax experts said the committee’s formation could significantly boost return filings if the deadline is extended up to November 15, 2025. They further recommended that such a facilitation body be constituted every year during the return filing season (July to September) to enhance taxpayer support and improve filing efficiency.
