FBR Extends Sales Tax Return Deadline of June to August 8

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a further extension for the submission of sales tax and federal excise returns for the month of June 2025. According to a notification dated August 4, 2025, the new deadline for filing is now August 8, 2025.

The official document, issued under the authority of Khalid Mehmood, Second Secretary (ST-L&P), states that the extension is a direct result of ongoing technical difficulties and user complaints. The deadline, originally set for July 18, had previously been extended to August 4. This second extension aims to provide relief to taxpayers and consultants who have faced persistent challenges with the online filing system.

A key condition of this extension is that the sales tax liability must have already been deposited within the original due date. This means the extension primarily benefits those who have fulfilled their payment obligations but were unable to file their returns due to system-related issues. The FBR’s decision is expected to ease the pressure on businesses and tax professionals who have been struggling with the new and upgraded IRIS system.
