The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has granted another extension for the submission of Sales Tax and Federal Excise returns for the tax period ending February 2025.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the FBR announced that the deadline for filing these returns is now April 13, 2025. This follows a previous extension that had moved the deadline to March 27, 2025.
The circular, distributed to the Chief Commissioners of Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Office (MTO), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), explicitly states a crucial condition for this extension. It is only applicable to taxpayers who have already deposited their due sales tax liability within the original deadline.
The decision was made by the FBR exercising its powers under Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and Section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.
This move provides additional time for compliant taxpayers, who have already fulfilled their payment obligations, to complete the necessary documentation and file their returns for the February 2025 period.
