President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Zafarul Haq Hijazi as the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) for a four-year term, bringing a seasoned financial regulator to lead Pakistan’s top tax oversight and grievance-redress body.
The Ministry of Law and Justice issued the official notification, marking Hijazi’s return to public service following his previous role as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
Established in 2000, the FTO institution provides taxpayers with a swift, impartial platform to address complaints against maladministration by tax authorities. Under its mandate, individuals and businesses can challenge actions or decisions of bodies such as the Federal Board of Revenue, with the Ombudsman empowered to investigate, halt disputed orders, and recommend corrective measures or relief.
